Need advice for trying to sell a Supercrew...
Hey all, I have an '01 Supercrew that I have been having a really hard time trying to sell. I was wondering if you guys might have some tips or insight. I started at the middle of the road for the Kelley Blue Book and have continually lowered the price until now where I am just below the low end for KBB. I have tried Autotrader.com (Absolutely no luck), parking at a super busy intersection for 2 weeks, and craigslist. I have gotten only a handful of calls and only one person showed up to take it for a spin. I was wondering if anybody has had any luck selling recently and could help me out. Are used trucks just not selling? Was I setting my expectations too high trying to get blue book? The thing is pretty clean and is basically stock, with the addition of a Rhino Liner and a cap. It just dawned on me tonight to throw a post up on the classifieds here, (https://www.f150online.com/forums/tr...-michigan.html) but I was curious if anybody had any feedback about trying to sell in today's market.
I was able to convince The Wife to let me buy a brand new one by telling her that my old one would sell without a problem. A month later, she is less than pleased. If I don't sell soon I will be living in one of them!
Thanks!

Looked at your ad. Don't know about MI but for that year, those miles and some rust, you are way over priced for TX. You might get $4000 here for an 01. Last October, I sold my very clean 2005 Supercrew, 5.4, with 135,000, absolutely nothing wrong with it for $10,000 and felt fortunate to get that.

Watch the ads in your area for simular trucks. Here in utah you might be able to get around that depending on the rust.. I think it a bit high but I dont think its to far off but it could be for your area. Always sell first,,
I have sold a lot of cars (close to 30) in the last 9 years and I have made money on all but 2. Here's a few tips:
DON'T FOCUS ON ASKING PRICE. Price sells cars at dealerships, not private party. If you are trying to get a number, ask for it. If nothing else, put 'Reasonable offers will be considered" at the bottom. That way, if your price is too high, they will still call you and hopefully make an offer. You definitely don't wanna scare people out of calling because your price is too cheap to be for a nice truck. Post your cell on there so they can call, too. I have forgotten to put that and wondered why no one called...
BE HONEST. People don't trust people, so it's REALLY easy for a stranger to suspect you're lying if you are. Being honest and outspoken shows them you're not trying to hide anything, and helps them feel comfortable.
USE CRAIGSLIST. I have had great luck on here trading/selling vehicles. First, get on CL and see what trucks similar to yours are going for. If trying to sell quickly, list for $100 less than one similar and make sure your pic looks a lil better. Trading is optional on there, too. I just traded my 2000 Honda Shadow 1100 for my 2000 F-150 (truck has 56000 miles on it). This guy knew his truck was worth twice as much as my bike, but he wanted my bike and didn't need the truck, so there ya go. There may be someone out there looking for your truck and just hasn't checked CL yet, so just be patient. Leave your price the same, too. If someone sees it dropping in price every week, they may think it has issues. Be sure to list features that people may search for (4wd, chrome, A/C, cruise, automatic) not only cuz it helps inform but also may get you more hits if people search for those specific words.
POST GOOD PICS. Get good camera angles with sunlight, shadowing, wheel shine, headlights, etc etc considered to look its best. Good pics sell cars online every day by getting the buyer to call you first.
That's a few things I have found to help greatly over the years. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

Oh and don't use Kelley Blue Book, go to NADA.com to find out what your truck should be worth. That is much closer as they sort by zip code, recent similar purchases and so on. A salesman at a dealer once told me that KBB is very rarely accurate compared to NADA or their "black book".
Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate the input! Looks like I got her sold tonight for $6500. Although I won't believe it till I have cash in hand...

Congrats man like I said DON'T GIVE IT AWAY! I have found folks on craigslist typically end up offering 80% of asking price or something around that. Hope deal goes smoothly.
yes craigslist is a salesman's friend, i sold a tractor in 9 hours, and a car for about 3hundo more than its worth in a day. 7,500 is about on the money for iowa, but it still a bit high.
