What oil are you guys running?

I have been using Castrol GTX 5-30, but I found out that there was a TSB that said to run 5-20.

I am thinking about going to Mobil-1 full synthetic 5-20 now.

What oil do you use in your 97-03 trucks?

10w30 Lucas Oil with 1qt Lucas heavy duty oil stabalizer.

I typically use castrol high milage 10w30 and a qt of Lucas oil stabalizer, but there was a sale at the autozone for lucas oil so i figured why not

10W30 is too thick for a Triton, and the stabilizer just makes it even thicker.

I use 5W20 Mobil 1 EP and either a Mobil 1 or K&N filter.

To the OP: The most cost-effective oil and filter is Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend and Motorcraft filter. The only reason I use Mobil 1 and premium filter is for extended oil changes, I run it about 10k. If you change your oil every 5k, the MC is as good as anything but a true PAO synthetic (which M1 is not).

All kinds of oil threads here, do some searching and check them out.

Anything Lighter then 10w30 and it will burn right through it. The stabalizer also helped to stop.. or slow down the amount of oil it does burn up, and it helped to quiet down a cold tap i have.

5W30 Quaker State synthetic Oil with a Motorcraft filter.

The girlfriends Blazer takes 5W30 so I just use it in the truck too since the difference between 5W20 and 5W30 is minimal.

Ive been running 5w20 royal purple full synthetic in my 02 4.6. It really seemed to quiet down the lifter noise and seems not to be burning nearly as much. Lil pricy but ive had good results.

There are lots of these threads.. I use Motorcraft semi synthetic and the fl 820s filter change it 2 times a year weather it needs it or not and it usually doesent need changed but I do it anyway. The lucas mentioned above is ok for push rod motors but the overhead cam triton does not like it. Neither does it like thick oil. Modulars like being clean sludge free so oil maintenance is important..

The High Mileage is not designed to run longer than manufacturer's recommended drain intervals. The EP is, it's good for 15k.
