Truck won't start sometimes unless in neutral

Hey everyone, my 98 f150 doesn't seem to turn over all the time unless it's in neutral. I replaced the shifter lever about 5-6yrs ago, and it does seem kinda of sloppy now. Is there something in there that could have come loose or broke? When it doesn't start I try to make sure it's all the way in park, and normally it still won't start unless I put it in neutral. This isn't all the time either. Thanks for any insight provided!

yeah there is bolts on the shift colom that come loose. Get up there and check around. They can be kinda hard to get to there on the steering column

The start circuit goes through the DTR switch on the transmission.
It only allows starting in Park and neutral.
Either the shift linkage is sloppy or the DtR is out of adjustment.
If a standard shift, the clutch pedal switch is also in series with circuit.
Good luck.
