Coolant Draining for Dummies...THIS Dummy in particular

Trying to drain my coolant from the engine block. Thought I had the right plug, but when I unscrewed it, nothing came out. Can't seem to find a good explanation online of which exact spot I need to unscrew. Also, is it possible that there really wasn't that much in the block so there was nothing there to drain? Oh, 2002 XL, btw.

there are 2 drains the one on the passenger side is nearly impossible to get at. Might be if you drained the rest of the system you got it to the drain..

I got a lot of it out of the radiator, but nothing out of the block. This just occurred to me... do I need to still have the white radiator drain**** open when I drain the block?

Well alright... that means I definitely pulled something that wasn't the drain plug. Hope that didn't screw anything up. Any idea where exactly the drain plug is? I've seen one write-up with the most unclear picture possible, and another that's on a 98, and I don't see anything similar underneath my driver side as what he showed in his pic.

Okay so this is the plug I pulled yesterday, and nothing came out. I don't even see anything else that resembles what would be a drain plug. Any ideas?

Btw, I took this pic with my legs hanging out from the truck at the driver door, so use that as a reference to direction, as well.

Pull the plug, stick a coat hanger up into the hole, and wiggle it around.

Seriously?! So is that the right one? Is it just clogged?

Looks like someone shove a bolt in there, -in place of the plug. To drain the block, I always pull top hoses. The top hose needs to removed anyway, -over by the thermostat housing. When you refill with coolant, you wait for it to appear at the housing connect. THEN , throw the top hose back on. It removes the air this way. That's just part of the procedure tho.

When I removed my drain plug, I replaced it with a short piece of pipe and a ball valve. Now I can just hook a length of faucet hose on it when I need to drain it.
