12 v power source stupid question! LMAO

Alright ive got a ton of switches to hook up and im not a pro at the whole wiring thing. Question is where is the best pplace to tap into a 12v power source to power my swithes for my extra light switches, pillar gauge lighting and some other goodies? Built all my harnesses and just cant find a power source that easy to get to. Thanks in advance guys!

I would locate a key on only power source near the column. It's been awhile since I did all my wiring but there are a couple in the column area. Just stay away from Yellow air bag wiring. The make sure that all your power to your accessories is tied directly into the battery for power.

I agree, to the battery direct for power. You can use the grounds ( green bolts) behind the kick panels in the cab. If you do that, check the ground strap under the cab (passenger side) that ties the cab to the frame. It's a good idea regardless, -they like to break with age. If it's corroded looking, get rid of it or remove/wire wheel it/wire wheel the bolts/plus the body where it's fastened to. Uknow, -clean it up.

Power-
Direct to bat.

Ground-
Green 8mm bolts in cab behind each kick panel. (if it's closer for convenience)

Check cab ground -it's right under the pass side floor board. It's your cab to frame connect.

Let me get in with some comment.
If you need auto switching night lights in the gages for park and headlite positions, a fuse tap would be the consideration off the dash panel by doing a fuse tap on a fuse position that becomes hot when the dash lights are turned on.
Depending on how much current your install draws, fuse the tapoff at just the next size above max curent draw.
If the current draw is large, use a slave relay in that tapoff and do all powering off the battery through it's own fuse as well.
If any of the gages are electric, you need to power them only when the ignition is on.
This would require a second tapoff on a fuse that is only powered when the ignition is in run.
Do quality work with quality parts so you have no issues later on with the installation.
.
The TAPOFFs are available per the different fuse physical sizes, so pay attention to that so damge to the fuse block pins does not happen..
Good luck.

So much for Molson Gold.
Good to hear from ya.
Only play with 'run down' 9v batteries. It's safer that way.
Take care.

Man - the last time I had me a Molson *anything* is when I didn't have any grey hair ! Shoot - there were Chebbie Vega's on the road ! lmao!

A run down battery may indeed be safer, but not near as much fun! Oww - that hurts soooo good!

A safe, cool weekend fer my two good fellers named 'Blue'

Thanks fer all yer great advice, Bluegrass - the youngin's sure appreciate it!

let the car wiring untouched, and pull a new line from +of the Batterie.
But u must insert a Fuse near the + Connection, so
as near the Batterie as possible.
to prevent fire, in case of a Fire.

and then u could Switch this line with a Relay by the switched +
to prevent the batt of draining, if u forgot to switch off the lights.
