How Can I tell if My F150 has Remote Locks?

Before I go buy a Key Fob for my truck I would like to know if there is a easy way to tell if mine even has a remote receiver. Its a 1997 XLT 4x4 SuperCab with power locks and windows and when I turn the key on and off a few times in a row it does cycle the locks but the only remote I have is for a car and it wont work on the truck. Is there an easy way to tell before I buy one?

Oh also. If I buy one, Do I need the older style with plastic buttons or the newer one with rubber buttons. I have a 1997 but its the newer body 97 not the older body. I think they did a mid year change on these.

96 was obs, 97 was the newer body style. Only thing they changed was the way the headlights fitted and the size of the brakes somewhere in mid 97.

And if the door locks cycle I'm pretty sure that means you have it.

Any idea which remote it will be? They list them as up to 97 and then 98 and up on ebay and places.

Take your vin to the part department and see if it shows a fob for your truck.

See if you can put it in program mode. Like was said above, if the locks cycle you have it.

I confirmed the original post that the locks do cycle. Just trying to figure out now which remote I need. The one with the plastic buttons or the rubber buttons. I have seen it listed both ways but mostly with the old buttons.

Mine is a 98 and I used the one with the rubber buttons, iirc if it was made after August 97 then it should be the newer stuff so rubber buttons.
