14 or 16 inch fans?

14 or 16 inch fans?
Looking at electric fans, was gonna do dual 14 or 16 inch fans. Which ones do you guys recommend? What brand? I have read many posts about controllers, leaning towards the flex a lite adjustable kit. Thanks

If you have or expect to add transmission coolers, A/C, power steering cooler, intercooler etc., go with dual 16s. I bought a Lincoln Mark VIII efan for $20 at a pick your part and installed it with a flex a lite controller 6 years ago and it has worked flawlessly. I did add, at the time of installation, an auto-reset 25A circuit breaker (never heard it kick on even once) and heavy gauge wire through the supplied relay/controller. This fan is the biggest OEM fan I've encountered, for a passenger vehicle.

Are there any dual fan setups out there? Like I've seen the ones from a windstar van, but I don't like how that motor sticks out on them. Are there any other factory dual fan setups out there that would be the same size as the windstar ones? Also, I plan to run a Mad fan controller. Anyone got any pics of their Mad controller install? Thanks

Is this fan the 2speed fan, it has 3 prongs for the 3wire pigtail. From my research this would be the 2speed. F4SZ8C607D; Dorman part #620-118.

Other sources of OEM fans are from the 93/94 Taurus/Sable cars.
They have factory controllers on those cars .

To use them you would need a drawing and know how to make the circuit connections because they are somewhat complicated with all they do on those cars. These controllers also change fan speed, are able to run one or both etc.

As for relays, all these fans draw a lot of amps at startup if you don't use a controller of some sort rated for the application.

Lincoln fans without controller can draw as much as 140 amps starting.
This makes a high end alternator and high capacity battery a must for overall reliability especially in the hot summer temps at low road speeds.
All these source cars use large alternator and batteries.

Use hardware and wire sizes to handle the peak current that might be drawn.
Use quality wire connectors and solder them where it can be done.
Bottom line is you want to engineer the best system overall because if not, it will let you down some time from burnt wire, connections and fuse holder failure etc.
Bottom line is the fan you use must push as much or more air then the stock fan to maintain enough cooling under the worst conditions of high ambient temps, A/C at low road speeds, transmission elevated temps from loads, night lighting etc. all at the same time.

id go with the heavy duty one.
ive only heard of one failure on his controllers and he quickly replaced it. alot of the lightning guys are running his controllers with great success.
and you obviously shouldnt try to get any electrical components wet or they will fail. it dont matter who makes it.

im pretty sure the mark 8 fan is why he made the HD controller since it has such a large startup draw. if you give him a call he will tell you that the mark 8 fan is way overkill for our motors. he actually runs a 2 spd mustang fan for his supercharged 3v5.4 in his truck.
Dual 16" ebay fans (I think they are Haydens) with my custom aluminum brackets on a dual-core radiator, controlled via a Hayden-Imperial controller bought at AdvancedAuto. This setup is 7 years old and I haven't played with the thing since the day I installed it.
