2003 Ford f150 5.4 triton

Hi I have a 2003 ford f150 with the 5.4 triton 2wd.

I have problem that when i went to start my truck, the dash lights come on and the radio works and so do the windows, but when i try to start it they all go off and there is a clicking from relay 5 under the dash, I jumped the started solenoid and the starter works fine. i had the battery tested and its fine too. I have no idea what this could be, any help would be appreciated.

Possibly a bad solenoid, more likely a loose/corroded connection somewhere.

Check the connections Battery, firewall relay, starter. If all good take a screw driver and short the big post to the small post on the firewall relay if the starter engages replace the relay.

It might be the ground "wire "going from the the starter to the solenoid. I use quotes because the so called wire is a joke. It is pretty much a piece of braided steel wool left completely exposed. It will stop a perfectly good starter to stop working. If you can find it (located on top of the starter) try to pull it off, if it does come right off then it was not giving you a good ground which is why you had to ground it out yourself. Unfortunately, you can't replace it because it is pressed into the starter, so you will need a new one . This happened to me twice but I was able to get a life time warranty on the first replacement. What a terribly designed part!

I am suffering a similar issue,
2000 4x4 5.4L.
Problem: will not start.
Connections on battery and solenoid look good, I was not getting anything out of the starter so they replaced the starter solenoid, now we get a single (strong) click outa the starter and then nothing. Even with the screw driver jump single click and nothing. Is this a bad starter or should I try anouther solidoid or be looking at something else?????

Attempting to help my uncle fix my truck as I am in Germany (military at the moment and cant look my self) so please barny style any idea for me!

are you sure the battery is good? Swap out the battery with a known good one? if you do that and all connections/wires are good it can only be the starter..

My uncle has told me hes taken the battery to advance and they have checked it twice ( a few weeks ago when it had this issue intermittently) and then a few days ago when it refused to start again. I will see if he has anouther to try for good measure. Its just this 1 click and nothing more that has me confused when thinking of how else to trouble shoot it.

in my day I've replaced more then one perfectly good ford starter. Ford builds decent starters that rarely fail. Sounds like a connection issue really but starters do die sometimes..
