To remove the air bag you need to diconnect BOTH battery terminals and wait about 5 mins. Then right behind the battery you will see where a battery cable connects to a terminal on the firewall disconnect that and wit again. This will keep your airbags from going off at inoppurtune moments. There are links to remove the dash in the search section and also in the how to ( how to replace heater core ) Hope this helps

Steering wheel:

Gauge Cluster:

If you are hearing a chime while driving, I would think there would be a light on in the cluster to notify you of the cause. If the dinging IS from seat belt warning, there should be a process to turn it off in your owners manual. I did this one.

In my sister's Explorer, I also had to deal with a series of annoying beeps. 5 or so beeps every few minutes while driving. Turns out a loose connection under the seat triggered the airbag light. However, the bulb in the gauge cluster was burned out, so as a backup warning, the car beeps to warn you of a malfunction.

Replace the bulb in the cluster to stop the beeping, then fix whatever's wrong with the airbag.
