Question about flow masters

I just got a new flowmaster exhaust installed the super44 series and I was surprized it was quite. Will a tip help make it louder?

Because you installed the worst possible muffler on that truck. It's chambered, -you constipated flow. Might as well shove a tater up your tailpipe.

I'm actually kinda please with it the more I like it. Seems like it is running 100% better than without a muffler. IDK though. I think I might just leave it. I don't really want a noise exhaust on my roadtrip/daily driver. Its just a single side.

Ive got the same setup, either gonna go with high flows or a super 10 depending on local regulations to get a better sound

Before I knew about the benefits of a flow through vs chambered muffler, I put a SI/DO fartmaster system on my last 99. Was fairly loud but sounded like crap. Think I bought the bolt on mandrel kit for $389.

I like the sound of the magnaflow much better.
I can't find a video from the outside but this is the stock exhaust system with just a single 4x14" magnapack that replaced the stock muffler right after my engine swap.
Not super loud but brings the sound of the engine out nicely.

Notice my odometer going off, typical.

What I'm trying to say is, take the fartmaster off and swing in for a maggie setup.

I agree with Toyz. I too had bought a Flowmaster kit for the Dodge Dakota I ultimately traded for my F150. The sound was loud and irritating (at least for me). I had a Magnaflow set-up installed at a local muffler shop and I love the sound. Just enough rumble but not irritating

I can't believe all the hate for Flowmaster in this thread! I've had both Magnaflow and Flowmaster on my truck and to be totally honest, the performance of each feels the same. Different noise, same power. Of course, my truck is bone stock. Maybe when you get up to modifying a truck above stock form, maybe then you can notice the difference, not sure. I installed a SI/DO Magnaflow in 2003 and loved it, a little too quiet for my liking, but it was nice. After the case on the magnaflow split in two, I decided to drop in an original Flowmaster 40 series, but kept all the original magnaflow pipes (stainless). It is a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlet. I've run this same truck with stock muffler, no muffler, Magnaflow, and now Flowmaster, and I really enjoy the sound of the Flowmaster out of all of them. A little louder than the rest and a throatier sound. I think the key is to use the "original" 40 series, not Super44 or whatever else they have out for these trucks. In fact, my specific Flowmaster I believe is actually listed to fit a Chevy truck (hence the 3" inlet).

The hate isn't necessarily about the sound, it's the loss of low-end torque.

True. My uncle's truck (same year/same engine as my truck but his is reg cab vs my scab) feels a lot "softer" off the line than my truck. He has an original 40 Flowmaster and I have a 14158 Magnaflow. I drive my truck pretty hard and I drive his truck as if it were mine, so it is a fair comparison.

I guess if you don't really go wide open or launch hard off the line you wouldn't notice the loss.

I will say his truck sounds pretty nice at idle and low speed cruising.
