2v to 3V?

Is it possible to swap the top end of my 97 4.6 with a 3v top end, headers, intake and camshafts?
what kind of power gain would i see if this is at all possible, i am planning on an evo edge programmer to help adjust the engine

Hello & welcome.

Sorry - not happening.

And the 'Edge Evo' is incapable of adjusting yer engine - it only loads canned tuning for yer model year PCM calibration.

You would not be able to use the edge evo for that.
It would be a much better idea to go to a 4v setup from a navi. That is actually doable.

Not in it's 'canned' state - you will need to have it converted to a Gryphon so it can accommodate the required custom calibrations.

You will likely need the complete harness, and PCM - this is not a casual project - consider the expense/benefit ratio carefully.

Anything is possible if you throw enough resources into it ( read: $$$)

I advise you to consult with a respected tuner first to see what is suportable.

EDIT - if'n He does not respond in a timely manner, it's likely he's chasing after a sword-swallower again ... y'all may need to PM him, lol...

You can no longer get a Gryphon conversion for a 97-03 Evo - you will have to get a CS or CTS. Also, only PHP does custom tunes for an Edge/Gryphon, if you want to use a local tuner you will need a different device such as a SCT.

To add a little more to your question; Have you investigated the piston config in relation to the 3 valve head for clearence and compression ratio?
The piston crowns were changes when the new heads were upgraded to.
You do know the valve control action is quite different and under PCM control that your OEM 97 is not.
You will end up getting into a bundle of problems you did not bargin for by trying to do a redesign with parts and control system.
Ford did not just put parts on a block from one year to the next without a major redesign of the total working system.
For example, from 03 to 04, the PCM and contol system changed from the OBDII to the next generation 'CAN' control as required by federal law.
So not only would you change PCMs but program versions as well plus the wiring.
This becomes a major undertaking only done by a shop that has worked it all out before, assuming it has some kind of benifit for the cost involved.
Good luck.
