Fuel Pump Problem??
Fuel Pump Problem??
A couple of months ago, I parked my truck and before I cut it off, it sputtered and died. I was low on gas and figured it ran out since I was parked on an incline. Let the truck set for about 30 minute and came back out and it started right up. Worked fine up until last week. I cut the truck off and went to restart immediately and it just cranked and would not start. Once again, left it for about 10 minutes, came back out and it started fine. Today I drove it for about an hour, parked it and came back out to start about 15 minutes later. It started, sputtered and cut off. Wouldn't restart. I let it set for 15 minutes and it started up fine. I drove it for about 30 minutes and it just died while I was going down the road, tried to restart and it would just crank but not start. I let it set for about 15 minutes again. Started up fine and off I went. Drove for 20 minutes and it died again and would not start. Once again, I let it set for 10- 15 minutes and it started fine. Got home about 20 minutes later and it was still running fine. I cut it off and restarted it without any problems.
I checked the relays, none are blown. I had the spark plugs and one of the COPs replaced 6 months ago.
It is a 2000 F150 4.6L w/ an automatic
Thanks for any help!!!

Oribable fuel pump
Your symptoms sound similar to the ones I had on my 98 w/a 4.6.
Mine didn't set any codes.
I just recently replaced the fuel pump & filter but haven't run it snough yet to tell.
It has improved starting and strangely the engine doesn't ping when cold now either. Both are definitely improvements.
Performance seems the same but I'm hopeing for alittle better fuel economy, we'll see.
Good luck
Dave

Took it to the shop this morning, they said it was either the fuel pump or the ignition control module. Haven't heard back from them, but I will post the results when I know. Thanks for the help!
They drove it for two days and couldn't get it to act up, so they didn't charge me anything for the diagnostic test and sent it home. Once it breaks again, ill take it back. Thanks for the input!
