Well, they scale up if you don't flush them out every other year. Scales plug and/or can damage the core.

It's often neglected, - it just is lol. Fortunately, I've kept up with mine and haven't had a coolant problem, -ever. So it does help to flush them out once in awhile. My 98's @ about 300,000 miles.

I drained the coolant and flushed water thru the system and filled back up with ford coolant about a year and a half ago. I dont know if that counts as a "flush" or not I tinkered with the truck for a while last night. The "mist on the windshield" problem stopped and the smell isn't as bad but theres still a slight odor. I was feeling the hoses going in and out of the core under the hood and neither leaked. I did however notice that the return hose was much cooler then the supply hose so i suspect the core may be clogged. Also no moisture on the floorboard but i noticed my coolant level in my reservoir has dropped a tiny bit.

Yea, it's probably finding it's way out. Look behind the alternator down in the block cavity. See any coolant on top of the block ? That's a common area to leak under pressure. Along with behind the passenger head, -only under pressure. With the core like it is, -partially plugged or plugged, you can get spikes, hot spots and so forth. In quite a few locations.

These are Visteon/Motorcrafts.

And there -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-MOTORCR...item3f138e7882

Those are true Motorcrafts, - thru and thru.

Any of those are the best I've seen for the money. As far as OEM standard and a VERY good deal.
