Remote start issues with factory security system

My remote start works fine, but sometimes my truck won't start with the key. The security light flashes rapidly. So then I just start it with the remote and it starts right up. I only have one key, so I ordered 3 more. My concern in getting the new keys programmed is that my remote start might quit working if they used a key in the security bypass system(since all key codes would have to be erased). The only box I can find is the remote starter itself. There's no key in it. Any ideas?

Is the remote starter aftermarket or factory?

What r u driving ? Do you know ? Is it a truck ? What kind ? A Ford? What year ? Should say inside the drivers door. Also, engine size should be under the hood somewhere.

All this info may help, - even when you might think different. Wouldn't it suck , -NOT knowing what your working on ?

BTW, - "Aftermarket" isn't much help either

So you only see the remote starter and no other modules? There has to be another module for your bypass.. Whether its a 556U aka Key in the coffin or you have a data override module. What kind of remote starter?

I wish I could find the bypass. Shouldn't it be near the remote start?

It is hard to say for sure where your bypass module is located. It depends on where the person who installed your alarm put it. I have a viper remote start in my truck which i installed myself. There is a four pin harness on the right side of your steering column. ( up and to the right of your OBD2 connection) These wires run up to the ignition cylinder to a ring that surrounds it. There should be a white and green stripe and a gray with orange stripe wires that have been spliced into to accommodate your remote start module. Note this module only inputs signal to the ring when remote start function is activated so i doubt this is your problem since your remote start is still working. But if you still feel the need to, you can find these spliced wires and track the harness to the module you are looking for.

I know my alarm has many safety features. One of which does not allow me to start the truck manually once the truck has been remote started. Key turn will have no effect on the system. I am not familiar with your alarm so i cant advice you on any settings or what part of the system is failing you. It could very well be the chip in your key has gone bad.

I hope this little bit of info can at least get you going in the right direction.

Good luck

This is the best way to see if your remote starter is using a data override module. Check the TX and RX wires to see if anything is tapped into this, if not look for a wire loop by the ignition barrel.

The problem with data override modules thats tap into your PATS TX/RX wires is that if they lose there firmware or the vehicle battery went dead.. it will screw with your PATS system and you can not start your truck by key and most of the time by remote start. Thats why I have my data override module (XK05) accessible so I can unplug it and get on my way.

EDIT: I actually found your status or GWR wire, Omega remote starters are a whole other animal. Check to see if you have a red 3 wire connector plugged into the remote starter. If you do, follow the blue wire and that will lead you to the bypass module

I found the wires, and the box. It's tiny, there's no way it has a key in it. So I guess I'm safe to go get my new keys programmed.

Once you get the keys programmed, you'll have to reprogram the bypass module with the new keys. If you don't have a flash tool, bring it to a shop. Probably like $20. Since you have a Omega, you most likely have a Omegalink bypass module. Either a OL-IB-FMTL or OL-MIB-KO. Unless its a different bypass module like a Xpresskit or iDatalink.

What if I have one of the old keys programmed too? Would the bypass still work?

I guess I'll put off getting the keys until my key completely fails. It's been working find lately. I really don't want to lose the remote start, I know the shops around here won't work on my system. But at least I know I can wire in an xpresskit and make it work again.
