Anatomy of a 5.4 COP

I was just looking at a youtube video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayeZZRlVBSo and at 3:18 he points to an electrode at the END of the spring, when I pulled one of mine out the electrode was in the center of the spring Not at the end of it. The spring must have actually been attached to the plug because when I pulled it out the spring stuck and stretched past the end of the rubber boot until it popped free and I was able to remove the cop.
My question is, are there different types of COPs ? Some with the electrode in the middle and others at the end of the spring? Should the spring slide over the spark plug tip or should there be an electrode at the end that just touches the plug tip with the pressure from compressing the spring above it?

I guess the piece in question is actually a noise suppressor, I just don't know if it is supposed to be in the middle of my spring or at the end like shown in the video?

Yea , I watched him describe something wrong, then and not much later, he instructed/directed something VERY incorrectly. Couldn't watch it any longer.
