Stick shift has nothing to do with it.

There is a worm gear in the cluster than can be changed out to fix this. OP, are you absolutely sure the tires are stock? The 98 F-150 Regular cab and XL models came with 235/70R16, the Flareside came with 255/70R16, the STX came with 275/60R17, the Supercab and the Lariat had either the 255/70R16 or the 275/60R17, and the XLT came with either the 235/70R16, the 255/70R16 and the 265/70R16.

Stickshift has everything to do with it as far as loss of power.

Id bet the previous owner, who ever lifted it, matched the speedo gear to a larger tire size and then put the stock tires back on it when he traded it in. If it runs at high RPMs, it may also have lower gears in the axles.

what do you mean loss of power? we're talking about gear ratios and an incorrect speedo?

Not sure how "off" your speedo is. But when running 70 mph on mine, it's actually running 73. This occurred when I put on new tires. It seems the brand I purchased, although labeled as the correct size, are a little off.

Like if im crusing at say 60mph my speedo reads 80mph.

Yes I was doing research and found out I have to change the speedo gear on the speed sensor.

Where can I get the stock speedo gear from.

Got a part number?

Most likely not, that's definitely something you'd mention in a sale with the cost of a regear.

Speedos are about 2mph off @ 70mph from the factory floor is what I've heard.

You have to pull yours count how many teeth are on it and then do the math to figure how many teeth you need instead. There's a few threads floating around here on it, just search vss gear. It's like a $10 part at autozone, but you'll have to know how many teeth you need because they don't keep track of it.

Here both of these articles might help you:
http://www.moldyrabbit.com/liquid/speedo_gear.html
https://www.f150online.com/forums/wh...ar-change.html

And I'm not sure of an actual part name, I just went in and asked for it. But you can always just search google for it, there's plenty of places online that sell them.
