1997 F150 Problems with everything
Hey guys thanks for taking the time to look at my post any help on my current situation will be greatly appreciated. I currently have a 1997 F-150. It is having some problems, with well the dash, the cable to put in gear (its an automatic), and now has a miss fire on cylinder #6. It has roughly 179,000 miles on it. I stupidly and regretfully went mudding with a couple of my friends and hit a water hole that i should not have though i made it in 2wd my truck has had a slight miss fire. i have an el cheapo cold air intake that does not have a air box and just sits inside the engine bay. after going through this rather roughly it developed a miss but not all the time just some like when its cold it runs fine and after i drive it 10-15 min i can notice a bad miss but while it idles it has a slight miss but not to bad. now all my guages and stuff quit working while i idle and unless im moving at a high rpm 2500-3000 rpm my radio everything quits if i turn my lights on the truck will shut off. i believe this is an alternator issue but after i did all of that to my truck i imediatly ran see foam through it to clean it out but still no change i then bought a new plug. e3 plug from advance what i currently have in the other 7. im completly lost as to why it will fire sometimes but not all i changed the wire the miss did not follow i also bought new coil packs it has 2 coils one on each side and i changed them. im lost can someone help me???? please!!! btw i know i fd up mudding not doing that again ever!
you obviously took water on the only thing I can think of is look around in the motor and see if some stuff got water in it and vacuum it out. If the air filter is wet change that too. Do you have any codes? If so what are they?
it is a 4.6 and p10306? cylinder 6 missfire detected, and system to lean bank one and bank 2. Do you think it may be electrical? before putting the plug i also unpluged the coils and turned the engine over with no plug in #6
yea you got water on top of the motor, i do this all the time..... haha, clear the codes see if it does it again, run it till it smooths out, should take a day or two, then change the plug and coil and terminal to that coil
And dont do it again haha
And dont do it again haha
From what I read, you have at least two issues.
The missfire and a poor ground.
The abuse has brought the grond issue to hassle you as well as water causing the ignition issue.
Unless your ready to put up with problems from going off road, don't do it.
Put a stock air intake system back on the truck. Anything else is of no advantage as you found out.
Most of what the rest do with their trucks is foolishness you may not be able to afford.
Good luck.

it has been about 3 days since it happend. and im going to take another look at it tomorrow as far as my ignition goes. @Boomer2011 do you think there could be water inside the plug well messing with my spark? on the other hand would a ground make my alt not charge my battery?
could be, the longest ive had one last was a week, and that was right after i got my new 5.4L, so i was pissed at that,
I cant remember is cylinder six second from the front on the drivers side? i think so,
I live in Mississippi it rains here ALOT so im always playing in puddles,
if you have a shop vac with a long enough and small enough extension, you can try to see if there is water on the head, just cover the end of the extension with a pair of panty hose,
if you cant find a shop vac extension that small
a rally small ratchet extension with a lint free terry towel on the end will work too
******BUT IT HAS TO BE LINT FREE*******

Cylinder 6 is the 2nd one on the driver side lol and ok i rigged up a shopvac with some small radiator hose lol it will get any place i need perfect for inside the plug well. i live in wv and its rained a lil bit the past few days so i decided to go get my truck a lil muddy and then damn i fd up haha it blows!!!
The stock filter housing is somewhat water resistant/sealed under the hood as it draws its air through the side of the upper fender, a much harder place to take on water from a sudden splash vs under the hood where an open filter will suck up anything that comes in.
