1999 F150 4.6 oil leak

So I've read a bunch of old posts about 99 5.4 and 4.6 motors that been leaking down the back side of the block on the passenger side. Oil all over bellhousing and exhaust. Said to be defective blocks with bad castings. Well I have a 1999 4.6 with 147000 miles doing the same thing. I bought the truck with 100000 on it and I noticed it leaked then and it wasn't that bad. I talked to the previous owner which I'm good friends with and its been that way since new. (Little background trucks never been beat, never pulled anything, its mint). So I'm just asking a lil bit of in put on what I should do.. I highly doubt that bulletin would still cover it. I just don't want to waste my time doing the intake n head gaskets if the s.o.b. is going to continue to leak. Any input would be greatly appreciated thank you

Same problem

I'm wondering the same thing, same problem here. I don't want to waste my time if new H.G.'s won't fix it, but at the same time I'm tired of smelling burnt oil every time I get out of my truck.

TSB's are not the same thing as recalls. TSBs are merely a reference for a technician about a robust repair for a common failure

Angry Oil Leak

Yeah, I just found out yesterday about $1500 of MY money MAY fix the head gasket leaking. I myself feel it's a Ford problem cash wise.

Mine has been leaking for 8-9 years now. Saves me doing oil changes. I just add oil and spin on a new filter every 6 months.

Well it may be 16 yrs old BUT, it look's like new inside and out other than the oil spot it leaves. Plus I rather keep it. It has been a great truck up till present problem. I still say Ford hid this problem as much as they could...

my red truck has headgaskets that seep, and a oil cooler gasket that leaks a little. Neither which are a big concern as long as i keep up with the oil level

Oh come on - if Ford warrantied everything for life the vehicle would have cost twice as much. Houses cost a lot more than trucks, do the builders warranty them for more than 1 year?

Ive been talking to a lot of people who has these engine's, and it's been running about 80% leaking oil. Most of the mileage has been from 132,000 to 160,000. One guy said his went about 70,000 and Ford repaired it. What im saying is, I feel there has been to many of these engine's leaking oil for Ford not to do something about it. I guess it's the "Luck of the draw" if you get Ford to fix it on mileage.

I had the same issue on my '99 back in '04. Luckily I bought an extended warranty from ford, and $50 and 9 years later and at 171k miles, no more oil leaking issues

Never had an oil leak. 307,000 miles now, but hey , - good maintenance and always used the recommended syn blend 5w, never filling the oil to top hash since that would be "over filling". Many do that, do that to much and it will take it's toll on the gaskets. Also I maintenance the PVC valve regularly and absolutely use the CORRECT replacement since Motorcraft is the ONLY valve with the correct margins for these Fords. All gaskets have been updated during the tenth generation in the year 1998. All models have been since then, -it was sort of a breakthrough in engineering. So honestly, there's no excuse for the modular V8's other than owner neglect.

Doing things half a$$ or attempting to outsmart those engineers that have gone the distance is the biggest problem, along with ignoring your owners manual. Like you know any better...

Now you people want Ford to pay for your stupidity. Keep crying, -only if you enjoy it. Other than that, -it's seen here as pathetic.
