Remote start on '03 XLT 5.4?

Could someone help me with a remote start question? I purchased a Prostart 2-way remote starter for my 2003 XLT 5.4 with factory keyless entry. Just wondering if additional relays are required for lock/unlock wiring with remote starter or do I connect the lock (pink/yellow) and unlock (pink/green) wires directly to the output lock/unlock wires from the remote starter? Do I need the additional relays or good to go directly from truck wiring to remote starter? Also, PKF1 or Idatalink bypass module ok to use?

i think you have to have a Bypass and/or Interface Kit. for the computer and the remotes, if the kit you bought didnt come with one

Located on your firewall near the emergency brake will be your keyless entry module. One of the two plugs in it will have a pink/yellow (lock) and pink/green (unlock). Simply connect your remote starter outputs to these two wires since they are a negative output. No additional relays needed unless you wish to wire it so that the driver's door lock unlocks first like the factory.

Thanks for confirming that. It will make my install easier. Could you please recommend a bypass module that would work well for me? I would prefer a simple type which does not require storing a permanent key in it and does not need specialized programming.

If you can get your hands on a Ford Part# 1L3Z-19G365-AB it is the securilock interface module that I used when installing the OEM remote starters on those year trucks. It has a ring that wraps around the ignition and will code to the vehicle if you have two keys to your truck. Has a power and ground. Connect the red power wire to 12 volts constant and connect the ground to your wire that is used to activate bypass modules.

If you can't locate a bypass then I would recommend either a Fortin Key-Overide-All module or a PKFM module. Both of these are preloaded with the firmware for a Ford vehicle. They will require you to tap into the RX and TX wires of the PATS ring around the ignition but will only require one key to program them. Couple more wires to hook up but does the job too. 12 volts constant, Ignition, Ground, activation wire, RX and TX wires.

A local ford dealership stocks IDATALINK (MULTI) transponder bypass modules. Seems to also be quite popular with various installers around town. Any thoughts on this module?

I use the idatalink modules all the time but have never used the MULTI ones. I always get the lesser priced ones and flash them with my computer.

I hear ya. I'm averaging about 5 or more starters a day but with the past couple mornings starting to get frost on the windows the phone has been blowing up. In the next couple weeks I will be moving into my 16 hour days with 10 plus starters daily nearly seven days a week. Huge juggling act going on with local installations of all types of products plus shipping out wire-prepped systems with phone tech help along with it. Not to mention 2 and 5 year old boys with a 14 year old nephew I adopted as well. Wife is a strong woman and understand that this is he real business season. I'm also our District Laymen President for our church so that gets mixed into the schedule as well. I'm tired from just talking about it all....lol

Wow, talk about busy! I guess you make hay when the sun shines. What are your thoughts on a PKF1 bypass for my prostart remote starter? I may be able to get my hands on one. Would it work ok with my truck?
