Painting chrome grille shell.

Im redoing the front of my truck, black headlights and a black mesh grille. I have a chrome grill shell and i want a white one or a non chrome one i can paint it white.. I went to the local junkyard and they didn't have a non chrome grille shell lying around. I'm under the impression you cant paint over chrome without it turning out crappy. Wondering if anyone here has ever painted over a chrome one. Thanks in advance!

Lot's of people have, its all in the prep work on how its going to turn out. Scuff it up some, use self etching primer, and then a few coats of paint, and then clear coat. And make sure it's very clean whenever you paint it.
