Steel or Plastic?

Does anyone know off hand on the 99 4.6L if the fuel tanks are steel or plastic?

Thanks

Thanks, I have a gas leak, hav'nt had a chance to look under yet. im not sure if its the sending unit or just a fuel line or the tank , Im sure its the tank though, i only smell gas when i fill up over half a tank. If i have a small pin hole, does anyone know of a good product of epoxy or something similar to seal it up?

It might be starting to rust out at the end of the filler neck where it meets the tank. Mine has been getting pretty bad now and it is due for a changing. Only leaks when I get gas. The gas sits in a indentation on the top of the tank. Next time you get gas look under by the tank to see if you can see any gas leaking on the ground. This is a known problem with these trucks. Mine is a 97 F150.

Was it only on the 98 and 99's? I have a 97 and am the original owner from new and I was never contacted about a new gas tank. Just the straps.

If the strap recall repair CAUSED the leak, you may be able to get Ford to replace the tank.

I tried to force it on them when i took it for the recall, told them that when my tank was hanging from the fuel straps that rusted away, i started to smell fuel after that. They told me i have some corrosion on the tank and its a small pinhole not caused by the recall.

Does anyone know where in ontario, canada is the best or cheapest place to pick up a tank? I checked with Napa auto parts they want $210.00, is that about right?

You could check the junkyard, but since your in Ontario, they are all probably just as corroded. I haven't ever priced gas tanks, but $210 sounds pretty good.
