Brake Cable Problems on a 2/96 1997 F150

It is a rwd F150 4.2V6 with the manual. 120" wheelbase with rear drums. The front cable was frozen so I needed to replace it. I got one and it didn't fit. It was way too long. Found out there was a part difference similar to the way the header panel has a part difference for the early 97's. Looked it up as a 96 F150 and was able to find what I thought was the correct cable. It was still wrong. Too short this time by what appears to be an inch to two inches.

Has anyone run into this problem or know what to do. Called the Ford dealership in town and they said their cable for my truck was obsolete/discontinued and they couldn't get it for me. I'm going to give them another call tomorrow and see if I can find anything out from the service manager.
