Weird Brake Problem and their not squishy

truck info:
year: 2002
model f150
engine 5.4l
extra: 4x4, automatic

Here is the deal when I am stopping right before I come to a complete stop (around 5mph) the pedal falls a little bit and the brakes feel like they let go and then if i hold my foot there or push the pedal a little bit more it feels like the pressure comes back and the pedal get pushed back against my foot and the truck stops. At first I thought it might be the master cylinder but I could not see any leaks is there a way to check and see if it might be the rubber brake lines that go to the calipers,or is their a way to check the check valve or brake booster, or what else do you think it could be.
