Engine swap?

Hi,

Some of you might know I've got the 2000 F150 XL 4.2L V6, what I'm wondering is about an engine swap... Is it possible to throw a 4.6 in without much work? The current motor has 344,000KM and I don't feel it has enough power to make me happy, haha. My grandfather has the same truck but with the 4.6, and it's got 2x the torque, which is why I'm considering a swap, not out of his truck but out of a used motor I could find around here, plenty of 'em around.

What's your take on this?

Thanks,
Brendan

You would have to get the transmission, wiring harness, and the computer too. The 4.2 and 4.6 have different bellhousing patterns.

And if your gonna go through getting all that might as well step up to a 5.4

I went from a 4.6 to a 5.4 and then supercharger on that. A 5.4 would be the same amount of work with much better power, pretty much the same mpg, and more options if you want more later on. The most affordable way to do it by far is to find a wrecked truck with the engine/trans/axle/ computer/wiring/ etc and swap it all!
