I don't know what you are hearing or reading that would indicate an advantage to the move.
Basicly an antenna mounted on one side has it's radiation pattern determined by the cab and frame shape.
Moving it to the oppsite side only reverses the pattern with no advantage.
A better place is in the center of the cab where the pattern will be more elongated fore and aft the truck instead of being distorted to the side.
Good luck.

right, the best place is the center of the truck.

Center of the roof or middle of a toolbox is the way to go.

You get longer ranges to the side away from the antenna due to how a ground plane works. Example - to get the longest range to the front and left of the truck, mount it on the right rear side. Who do you want to talk to? If you want to talk primarily to people in front of you on the other side of the road, that's where you would put it.

No. Read my post again.

If you want a symmetric range, put it square in the middle of the truck. Any offset from that - be it side to side or front to back - will change the directionality of the antenna. In which exact direction do you want the longest range?

you wont get more range, it is just a equal distance all around.

if you mount the antennae on the drivers side you get more range on the passenger side, and visa versa

And if you mount it on the rear bumper, you get more range to the FRONT. If you want to talk to the trucks on the other side of the road in front of you, put it on the right rear.

I have a wilson 1000 mag. mount. Slap it up right in the middle of the cab, usually a hair to the rear of dead center actually.

I run a 112" stainless whip mounted in the middle of my tool box. But range isnt a problem for me. I skip talk most of the time..
