Parking brake for 99 F150 4W Disk repair

Has anyone ever needed to repair the parking brake on a 99 f150 with 4 wheel disk? By this I mean aside from shoes and hardware kit. I am refering to the cables and the actual peddal.

When I apply my parking brake it wants to engage but it doesn't, when I press the peddle all the way to the floor the joint thingy where the left and right cables meet under the truck only move about an inch. Is it suppose to be this little or is it suppose to be more than that?? I am looking at the cables on Tascas site and thinking of getting them but I'm torn of whether I need to or not. Does anyone have any infor for me on this???

Thanks.

I had to replace both cables as well as all the Ebrake hardware after buying my 2000. The cables were rusted and all the hardware had been removed, shoes, levers and all. I did not have to do anything to the pedal assembly. I would estimate the movement in the cables should be more like a couple of inches. I suggest you look at the brake levers that stick out behind the wheels to get an idea of their range of motion. My recollection is that the levers move maybe 2 inches. If they don't move at all, the cables are probably stuck like mine were. Does the Ebrake hold the wheels at all? Do the cables get tighter when the pedal is pushed? If the front (open) cables get tight, but the levers don't move and the shoes don't expand, the enclosed part of the cables may be stuck.

They work, Kinda. The cables do expand the shoes because I just (a couple months back) replaced the shoes and hardware after getting the little arms off a scrap yard donor vehicle after everything broke and "wrapped up" on my axel (according to my mechanic). The pedal goes all the way to the floor and I was told by a buddy watching the cable as I applied the pedal that the cable moved what he thought was about an inch.
When on a ~perfectly flat~ ground the truck will roll but when I apply the parking brake it holds enough to keep from rolling, however any kind of incline and it doesn't do any good. I'l have to try and get to it tomorrow to see what I need to do.

I am in the process of looking into getting parts to fix my shift tube and figured i'd get the brake cables and such at the same time, but I guess I'll hold off on them for now and see if what I have just needs to be adjusted.

Speaking of adjustments, The guy at the parts counter at my local ford dealer said something about adjusting the pedal, anyone hear of this? If so How??

Thanks.

You can adjust the "shoes" inside your disks. The adjuster is on the bottom. There is no adjustment to be made on the actual peddle, at least I couldn't find one.

I would suspect the "levers" are rusted. Mine were after just 60,000 miles. I also blew an axle seal on the passenger side that coated everything with oil and on the drivers side the brake material separated completely from the shoes. I ended up replacing both the rear cables as well but not the cable from the peddle. It was the only piece of the system that was still working.

Sounds like the shoes need to be adjusted, as grizzstang suggested. I would do this first and see if that helps.
