I took some pictures and don't know how to up load them to this thread but if interested let me know.
could you send me the pictures? I don't have the foggiest idea on how to get started and any help will be appreciated. How do I get the cluster out? email is: laptop at czmates.com

sweed6403, I've got the same issue, I've got my cluster out on the bench, but I don't see where/how to get to the worm gear. Can you help me on how to get to the worm gear inside the cluster? I've taking off the front clear bezel plastic piece, can't find the magic door.
Thanks,

Thumbs up 1997 F-150 XLT odometer broken

jimbo74,

Thanks for replying. I finally figured it out, after i removed the instrument cluster and had it on the bench, I removed all those shiny brass screws (front and back), but from there I was stumped. The black film facing (with all the writing, i.e., MPH, RPM, Fuel Gauge, Oil Pressure, etc...) was stuck on the plastic shroud, I guess from all the years, and I was afraid to pull up on it. But I continued to pull around the film/facing and it finally broke loose and exposed the very tight opening to get to the worm gear. Replaced the worm gear and some burned out bulbs and now all is good :-)
This probably saved me several hundred $$$. If I had taking this in to the shop they and if the simply replaced the cluster that was going to be $300 by itself, not mention labor.
Luckily mine was the analog type cluster, otherwise I would have just bought another cluster.

Terry
