Spark Plugs 4.2 UH OH

Started out as routine maintainance. Change 6 plugs & maybe wires. Started on the pass. side in the back which looked like the hardest. That and the center came out without drama. The #1 plug wuld not let me put the socket on it. It was 93 degrees and the sun was on my back. I GAVE UP after an hour of hell. The next day I drove to my mechanic. I've only had this truck for a few months, it has 118,000 miles on it and ran pretty well until I broke the plug. The plugs were original and the #1 plug was rusted to the point where the hex fell apart, The gaps are supposed to be .052 to .055, they were over .085. I guess this is a testament to a good ignition system. anyway after $340 including an oil change and new genuine Ford wires the truck runs great The rust was probably due to the truck being in my neighbors yard broken for the last 3 years. The moral is do your maintainance.

Wow so a good running truck sat for three years left to rust? It amazes me how people can turn stuff into junk. Now it has someone who will actually take care of it and hopefully the truck treats you right for it.

Its sad as to what some people consider junk. I know a guy that had a very low mileage (>30,000 miles) 2002 F-150 with a CLEAN body but it had a hesitant start and wouldn't run when hot. He sold it to a junkyard for $800. I bet with $200 in parts he could've had a truck with another 10 years left in it.

This one wouldn't start because the ford dealer installed alarm module failed. I charged the battery over night and jumped out the solenoid and it started right up. I just had to bypass the starter interlock and door lock wires on the alarm harness and everything worked like it should. I guess I can live without remote locks.
