I bought my 97 a year and a half ago and I am sure the rear strap was broken the whole time I have owned the truck so far. Luckily there was a skid plate under the tank that held it up but that didn't stop the broken strap from wearing a hole in the tank and leaking out. I had to replace the tank and straps in June. Does anyone know if Ford will reimburse me for the parts?

It says there is no recall on mine. Both straps look in good condition.

They're not expensive IMO, VERY easy to replace. You'll be in disbelief after doing so. 15 minutes if you haven't done it before. That's after you remove the skid plate, which isn't nothing either.

FYI this recall only include's trucks without gas tank skid plate.

So if you have a Skid plate they will turn you away untill later notice.

Guys, call your dealer or simply enter your VIN on the governments recall site. I don't understand why you're asking us like we know if your truck is effected.

from what i hear is that the strap is a single metal thickness. When it rusts through nothing there to hold. Most straps that i have seen before on other vehicles it is a double metal thickness spot welded together so atleast there is a second chance to hold the tank. We just had a Ford guy at our shop that was talking about it. He is looking to see if we can help out with this issue. Lots of work then!

Yes it does. I filed a complaint with the NHTSA from a link on this site last year. I got a call a few weeks ago from them asking to pass on my complaint to Transport Canada. A few days later I got a call from them and they asked me to describe my issue. The guys said there was no recall yet but they were investigating. I had called Ford Canada months ago asking if there was a recall and I had already paid for the repair myself what happens.I was told I had to take the truck to a Ford dealer so they can inspect the repair to make sure it was done right, then they copy my receipts and send them to Ford who then reimburses me.

Bad link. To copy and paste a link from another forum, you have to right click the link to copy it, if you drag the mouse across it you get an incomplete URL.

Will contact my local dealership and see if they will take care of it now or after the recall is "mailed out"

Mine is doing the inspections on request without the letters, but they don't have the improved straps in yet. I'm taking mine in Friday for the inspection, the service writer told me when I called him yesterday that if the strap is dangerously bad, they WOULD replace it with a new original OEM strap.
