'99 5.4 F150, sputters, accelerates

Sometimes when idling, sometimes when initially hitting the gas, the truck will alternate between a sputter, and then want to jump into an acceleration, back to sputter, etc. This occurs for a few seconds, then smooths out. It doesnt happen all the time, only sometimes, and usually when cold. I dont have any codes at this point. Fuel pump recently replaced. Planning to replace the filter, but wanted to see if someone here has seen this before.

Could be a number of things. Fuel filter would be a good choice to start with, considering they should be changed every 15k. Could even be the reason your pump went bad.

Mileage would help. Plugs ever been changed? Cop's? Throttle body or MAF sensor ever been cleaned?

I will replace the fuel filter and clean the MAF sensor, and see how it goes. Truck has 207k. Thanks for the replies, will post back when I have feedback.

Sounds almost exactly like when I had a coil going out, did that intermittently for a while then once it got REAL bad it finally threw a code. Have had it happen twice in 133k mi., two separate coils.

Mine too. started out an occasional hickup. Then went out completely.
