Hello all just picked up a 1999 ford f150 supercab. It has the 5.4 engine but I am trying to figure out which tranny is in it. I bought it with a bad transmission and can see the case is cracked at the rear in front of the short case piece that connects to the transfer case. Anyhow any help in locating the tranny type would be appreciated.

 

Just look inside your door jam. It should either say "E" for E4OD/4R100 HD trans. 99's had the 4R100 for that model year.



Or "U" for the 4r70w, regular duty. Like this one -

 

mine has the u code so looks like the 4r70w is mine. will any 4r70w from a 5.4Liter with 4 wheel drive work or do I have to match certain ones?

 

Yes. A trans from a 4.6L will work as well.

 

do you know if the mustang trans would work? or is it just the same casing?

 

You need a 4wd trans.
