Unhappy Hail damage!!!

Well we had a pretty bad storm roll through wednesday afternoon, and with it came an onslaught of quarter size hail. So my truck now has at least 25-30 dings on it and several scratches and a dent from a branch. They aren't too bad It will definitely need some body work and new paint though. Now I'm just sitting here waiting on the insurance adjuster to call. I'm kind of on the fence with this one though, I really want to keep this and get it fixed but on the other hand it wouldn't hurt my feelings too bad if they cut me a good enough check and hauled it off. I'll keep ya'll updated.

Just went through the same thing here in Louisiana. They paid me pretty good for the repairs. Replace the hood, replace the window pillars, replace the window belts, replace the vent visors,PDR all the body panels, paint fenders, new pinstripes, paint the roof, paint hood, blend front cap, etc. All in all they cut me a check for $6,200. Useing this opportunity to go with an aftermarket hood. Trying to decide between the reflexxions cowl or cobra.

Good luck with your outcome man.

Well that's somewhat of a relief for me, since they paid to do all of that for yours. I just know with the age of my truck the clearcoat isn't in the greatest shape it's ever been so I would want them to respray the whole truck. I have progressive, which isn't the cheapest around so I would hope they are willing to do the best they can for me. Also with the age and mileage of the truck the value isn't too high so that's why I worry they might not want to pay those kind of repair costs.

Sorry to hear, that sucks. But at the same time now it could be the opportunity to change up the truck a little

If repair is going to cost more than 75% of the book value, they will probably total it.

Does anyone know what prices they go by? Private party is around $3500 and retail is slightly over $5000. I'm not sure if they will add any money for the lift and everything or not, but truly I don't think the damage is that bad but there is a ton of small dings. Worse come to worse I already have a couple expy's and lifted single cab fx4's lined up to go check out.

They use a different scale. I have progressive. If the damage is around 50% of the retail value they will more than likely total it... If more so because of the age of the truck in general..

Aftermarket mods do not add to the value one bit.

Well, I finally talked to the claim rep today and he set me up an appointment to take it to the body shop tomorrow. From the way he sounded it's like they are just going to fix everything.

Sorry to hear about the damage. Good news that it will be repaired. The weather has been insane so far this Spring\Summer. So many posts on here about storms and damage. Plus, it's always headlining the news in some way (the violent weather).

My brother lives in Melbourne Beach, FL and he's had some wicked storms down there too. Large hail damaged his truck pretty bad (don't worry, it was only a Dodge Ram ) and even ripped off his tonneau cover, which is an undercover and fairly heavy duty.

We've been lucky so far here in MD. Most of the violent stuff from the mid-west gets broken up by the Appalachians before it reaches us.

If it were me, and the damage wasnt THAT bad... And the truck is paid for (Alfa cuts YOU a check if it's paid for, instead of you & the body shop if it's not) I'd take the money, fix what HAD to be fixed myself, and buy cool mods w/ the rest....

lol

When my 97 took some hail damage, the hood was dinged & dented pretty bad, roof of the cab too. But It didnt bother me truck had 175K on her... more character lol..

So I took the ins. money and had new glass put in the side mirror (hail busted the glass) new shocks, new tires, seems like maybe a new radio too? Pocketed the rest.

Well they cut me a check for $1900. I borrowed a heat gun from someone and might try working on some of the larger dings over the weekend. I think I'm just going to end up pocketing the money, since I had planned on doing body work and paint on this truck when I finished school anyway (next year). The truck doesn't look bad and from 10 feet away you can't notice a single ding, so I think I can live with it for a while. The only thing I'm thinking about spending the money on is a new set of wheels and tires. The rest will probably go to paying off some debts.
