Newbie question body part
Newbie question body part
I brought a 2000 XLT last week. Bed is very rusty. Last night I was under the bed looking up and saw that the metal cross member that the evap canister lies in is almost completely rotted out. I supported it with a bungie cord for now. Where can I buy this piece? I couldn't figure out what to call it so searching didn't get me any where. Help please.
I may try the pick n pull Saturday but figure there all rotted. Anyone found a source for this part?

I think you will have to drop the fuel tank and replace that cross member.
It will be quite a job before it's all over.
The truck should be up on supports and leveled out so the replacement goes in straight and not result in a twist when it back down on the ground.
You may see they are riveted in an needs a torch to remove all parts then bolt in the replacement and weld it in place.
Good luck.

Thanks. I'm going to try the junk yard as I said since I can't find it online.
Knowing what to call it other than "cross member" or "bracket" would help.
It doesn't look structural at all and mine is held in by 4 bolts. I think I can pull out the 2 pieces with out dropping the tank since it's rotted though in the middle but putting a complete one back may require that.
Anyone know of an exploded view of the frame that might list or show the part?
