Ticking noise

Starting today, I heard clicking noise coming from the engine bay. I took a listen and its on the passenger side of the motor, just about where the tension chain is. Could either be that, or the lifters. Either way, to replace them, the top of the motor has to be taken apart. Any other ideas what it might be? I put some lube in and some thicker oil when I changed the oil, so if it is the lifters the clicking should become more faint.

Id be checking plugs just for cause. But, A stethoscope should pin point it. Also, I haven't heard the clicking and don't know if it is consistent with engine speed but I would remove the drive belt and see if it is still there. Just because I have heard tensioners make a clicking sound and the A/C pump pulley. Any chance of a sound clip/video?

check all the bolts on the manifold see if any are broke both sides useally the back two are broke. And i watched the video when you where in the engine bay pass side mine dose that aswell but when you got under it kinda reminded me of a manifold leak. I would check the plugs to be safe also.

That sound could be an exhaust leak bro, but without hearing it in person its hard to tell.

I have had to replace my two rear bolts on the passenger manifold. They just fell out I guess . Thats been quite awhile now since then, but no problems since. Maybe just check it out?

Wouldn't hurt to check your pcv valve also. But that noise may be too consistent for that, worth a check though and make sure the spring is not broken.

Took the truck to the best mechanic I know. He checked it out and said its definitely not the plugs, exhaust leak including manifolds, or tension chain. He said it could have been a broken spring, but the ticking noise gets faster when the motor is revved, so that excludes that. He said its most likely a lifter. So I just have to deal with it. Im not paying $1k to have him take apart the top half of the motor to replace the lifters. So...yeah. Thats the conclusion.

My truck made that EXACT noise and the next day I shot a plug out. It just happened 2 weeks ago so the noise is very fresh in my head.

I don't mean any offense to your mechanic, but are you absolutely sure he checked them all. The rear plugs are not fun to get at so most people when they have the coils off go ahead and replace the plugs because of the PITA it is to get at them. The way I checked my plugs before was to stick a long extension on each coil and listen. I caught a loose plug this way hearing the compression seeping past the threads. Like I say, I mean no offense at all to anyone, but I just hate to see you left on the road with a truck sounding like a steam train, especially since my truck sounded exactly as yours does. I've read several times the modular motors have very few problems with the lifters. I hope it is just the manifold leaking, once you spit a plug the trust you have towards the truck goes totally away.

I can take it another mechanic and have them check it out, but they are so slow im going to be left without the truck for a couple days. My gas mileage is down a little, so that could be an indication of...leaking manifold? When I had a misfire in one of the cylinders my MPGS were in the dump too. I got 225 miles on a tank, about 50-60 lower than usual.
