Ticking noise
I can take it another mechanic and have them check it out, but they are so slow im going to be left without the truck for a couple days. My gas mileage is down a little, so that could be an indication of...leaking manifold? When I had a misfire in one of the cylinders my MPGS were in the dump too. I got 225 miles on a tank, about 50-60 lower than usual.
Taking my truck into a different mechanic on tuesday. I hope its just a plug or a manifold bolt or something easy and cheap to fix. My money is going into suspension and I dont want to put that on hold for something dumb like this.
ugh what a bummer. I took the truck to 2 mechanics. Both of them had exhaust guys come and look at the truck to see if there was an exhaust leak. Manifolds are good, no cracks or broken bolts. All piping is good with no leaks. All sparks plugs are good. Both mechanics said its a lifter. The ticking noise is soooo terrible. It can be heard in the truck 100% of the time. Its really bad at 2000 RPMS. He put some fluid in as a lubrication which sometimes works to help quiet the ticking noise. But nothing. Its terrible. It honestly makes me not want to drive my truck. Im not paying a grand to have them take off the top part of the motor to replace/see the lifter. Any suggestions? Im super ****ing bummed right now.
73000 on the motor. Im thinking about just driving it for a while and see what happens. If it stays the same or gets worse, ill probably just sell it and get the 03 HD that ive always dreamt about.
Im trying NOT to put money into this truck, besides suspension. These trucks have 16 lifters? I may be able to replace them with a buddy who has a lot of experience in motors.

Actually they dont have "lifters" they have cam followers and they rarely fail. Any of these "mechanics" Ford techs? over head cam engines are a different deal you got a noise a chevy mechanics calls lifter noise and 9 times out of 10 that aint even close. I'd pull off the valve cover and see whats going on. In these engines its all right there..
If i were you i would just bite the bullet and get it fixed right. Not many people is going to buy a vehicle with lifter noise, and if they do they arent going to pay much for the vehicle... Id just hold off the suspension and get the truck running right again... Good luck
Take it to ford... That way there should be no second guessing.

My gas mileage is in the dumps right now. I would be surprised if Im getting 10 mpgs. Im just so convinced its a leak somewhere. Power doesnt feel where it should be, and the truck takes an usual amount of time to shift into 4th. Both of these mechanics said the plugs are good, manifold is good with no cracks or bolts missing. But idk. I dont wanna pay Ford a few hundred dollars for a diagnostic. Im not mechanically skilled enough to start taking off parts of the motor and I dont know what to look for. The ticking has definitely gotten louder.
