2003 F150 4.2 PCM Relay Problems

Ive searched and searched theses forums and found I need to change the PCM relay under dash yl3t-14b192-aa. My truck starts only periodically and there was a clicking coming from the PCM relay. If I jiggle the relay my truck will start.

My problem now is that I cannot remove the relay. I tried and the cover broke off. Inside there is a coil that is removeable and transistor(?). The coil is the part that I have to jiggle to get the truck to start.

What could be the reason it wont pull out?
How do I get it out?
Is there a larger problem going on that I don't know about?

Any help is appreciated I'm at my wits end.

I also cannot find a listing for the part aside from the over priced dealer. Is there any other relay I can use?

Ok I got the relay changed and my truck starts. I'm worried that there is a bigger problem though.

The problems started with the truck not starting and the odometer reading dashes. I did some searching on here and found it was my underhood PCM/fuel relay. I changed that and it fixed the problem.

A week later my truck wont start again and there is a clicking coming from the underdash pcm relay. I jiggle the relay and it starts. Two days later it wont start and there is no power to anything. Replace the relay and it starts.

It seems like there may be alot larger problem than just relays. It seems weird that the underhood relay would go out then the corresponding underdash relay gos out a week later.

I assume Ive got a short somewhere and it's screwing up the works. I'm no mechanic though so it's just a guess. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Don't labor over it unless something else shows up.
You can't find an issue that doesn't show.
Good luck.

Thanks. I'm going to roll with it and hope nothing else pops up. It hasnt read a code since this whole ordeal started. Its been strange.

I noticed your name is Bluegrass. Have you heard the new Steve Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers Album?

How did you pull out the relay. I'm having the very same problem on my 2002 F150 but from Relay1. All the lights blink and the relay clicks when I turn off the truck.

My problem was solved. My alternator and battery went out at the same time. There was no warning. The clicking noise from relay 1 had to be associated with low voltage. I replaced both parts and all is well. No relay was needed.

Thanks forum as it game me ideas to check.

In case you do end up changing it I had to pry mine out from under the dash. It just fell apart when I tried to pull it out.
