Battery light on (but truck starts fine?)

OK say I dont have a volt meter.. is pulling the cable an accurate test??

On modern computer contol vehichles you never pull a cable while the motor is running.
That is old time stuff.
What can happen is transient voltage spikes can take out electronics as well as make the voltage levels change wildly.
Don't do those things. It does not prove anything worthwhile and risks damage far in acess of what you have for an issue, now..

You can buy a voltmeter at Harbor Freight for 6 bucks.

when they have sales they go for like...2-3 bucks! i keep one in my truck for $#17$ and gigs
