Ok so i've had my 99 XLT for a little over a month now.. and i really have no complaints... i'm just in love with it 
but... i got totally screwed over by the people i bought it from...
we paid 4000 for it, it had 227k on it.. rebuilt trans dec 09 and we were promised that the brakes and rotors were replaced last year and were just fine... it came with 22"rims and tires worth about 1700 new, a 6" navi system, 8k HIDs, Smoked Altezza tails, and a SI/DO aftermarket exhaust that i still havent taken time to figure out what it actually is....
if you have any questions about why i had to get any of these parts, just ask haha...
in the 6 weeks ive had it....
Front brake pads+labor - 119.95 PM
Front rotors - 195.26 PM
Bearings+labor - 82.18 PM
Front Wheel Seals - 12.40 PM
255/70R16 Kenda Klever - 524.00
10 lug nuts - 34.80
2 wheel studs - 13.96
differential service with free labor - 36.00 PM
2 license plate markers - 22.02 ? Maybe PM
REBUILT TRANS+labor+fluid - 1227.00 Break down
rear main seal with free labor - 52.53 Normal-good price
caliper bolt - 5.25 Wear and tear ('99 M/Y)
things i NEED to get done as soon as i get enough money:
Valve Cover Gaskets+labor - 312.61
fuel injection service +half labor - 29.95 PM
full tune up including plugs and wires - 288.73 PM
OK... so after all that, plus tax and little fees here and there (disposal fees and whatnot) it comes out to an awesome grand total of.....
3208.23 in 6 weeks...oh not to mention an oil change including oil/air/fuel filters because all 3 were clogged full of crap... the worst thing is 99% of these things are repairs.. not maintenance... and its bull... but... in the end... i still love my truck...

You got it dialed in now so enjoy it.
You really should have done a lot of that stuff yourself. There is a wealth of knowledge on this site to get you through it. When I do maint on my son's 97 f150, e is right beside me helping out and learning in the process

look, i honestly dont have time to do this stuff myself, i didnt have a driveable vehicle to work so the fastest way was to get it done at my shop. and yes i know it has high mileage, but i couldnt spend more than 4k. i was dead set on an f-150. i was running out of options and it was the best truck i had found in a month so i jumped on it. and sure if i had time i would have learned how to do a lot of that stuff myself, but i didnt have the time to spend learning how to do it. and its not about getting over it, i dont need to get over anything. and even after all the money ive put into it, i still love it and dont regret it i was just looking for some opinions on what i did, but i could be wrong but i feel like you're all saying i should have taken more time and done more research, well i did as much research as i could, and i was running out of time and just had to take a gamble with what i got... i looked at 5 or 6 other trucks and they either had worse known mechanical problems, older, more miles, or just worse condition overall..
and now that ive gotten it into fairly decent working condition, i hope to use this site, and all of your guy's knowledge to do most everything else by myself.

oh and if you noticed, im paying a lot less than i would at pretty much any other shop...
i dont hear about many shops that will cut you a break on over 1000 in parts and labor in a month's time...

Don't take it personally - we have some people here who think if they have to pay someone else one red cent to work on their vehicle, they are getting raped without the benefit of lube. They also don't understand the concept of markup on parts, they think that anyone should sell them to you for the same price they paid for them.

The OP bought a used truck with 227k miles on it. Of course it is going to need some repair work. I can now see that he needed it back fast and had to pay extra for it.
Now that it is running, he really should begin searching this site and make plans for upcoming maint before it is an emergency. There is loads of information on this site and the guys here are more than happy to help him out.
