Swapping rear to a Ford 9"?

http://richmond.craigslist.org/pts/2276800352.html
Found this little gem about 10 minutes ago while browsing craigslist during class haha, my question is to me this looks like a good deal the 9" is a lot stronger than the 8.8 I have now and it has 4.56 gears already in it which is what my next upgrade was going to be anyways. However I was concerned of how hard it would be to swap, whether it would be too narrow, or if you guys don't even think its worth it.

Any opinions welcome!

i dont think its worth it unless you plan to do a solid axel swap soon. and then there are better axels for that any way. i dont know about width issues, but the bolt pattern for the wheels doesn't match what you have so you either have to run two different wheels on the truck, or try to swap parts to make all four wheels the same. personally i think you would be better off trying to find a 9.75 rear end. i just think the 9 inch swap is too much hassel.

Yea I thought about the wheels being different bolt patterns but they also make those wheel assorted for different lug patterns I'm not sure how safe they are though

If you're to run a 9", I would recommend a "609". Meaning that sucker is built all around, nodular third member, with thick tubes cut to length for our track width, or wider than ours. Chrome moly's, and 1 ton outers. That would've been my ideal axle, I settled for 1 ton suspension all around because of budgeting.

The 9 inch was never set up for ABS.

JMC, depending on year of truck he has, tone ring wouldn't lose him much other than RABS?

Without a working rear sensor the whole system will shut down. So no ABS at all.

Dang well i guess that rules this out cause I could deal with no rear abs, but no front? Id feel way to unsafe without it. Well thanks for the replies guys!

From what I've understood, it can be done if you're interested in the time/effort, just thought that things were "seperate"

You can put a tone ring in a 9". I haven't done this myself (i ditched abs when i did my d44/9" swap in the explorer) but not too horrible from the looks of it.

You could mount this on the x-fer case output then relocate the sensor.

I wish I could find a better write up of this but i'm sure if you post over there someone will be able to help.

You can also do a disk swap easily using gm calipers and dana 44 rotors on the cheap. Or you can find nice kits out there...but expect to pay a good deal more. I made my own brackets, used olds bravada calipers/brackets, and sami rotors. I may redo it though, it works...but not quite as well as i would like. Just do some research...there's probably a million ways to do it lol

Brackets:

Calipers (these have an internal parking brake)

Kit. You'd want to measure the flange before ordering something like this just to be sure it'd bolt on. It's a nice setup.
