5.4 1998 vs 2002

I'm trying to help out a buddy of mine and have alot of experience in Lincoln 4.6's but not 5.4's. The truck is a 1998 F150 5.4 with a blown motor, The replacement motor is from 2002 5.4 from unkown vehicle. My concern is the intake manifold for the 1998. The original motor is non-PI and the new motor is PI (I think...still can't read the casting numbers)>>>What intake do the trucks come with for the PI...what years are they the same in case I have to come up with one.

1999 f150 vs 1998 f150

Looks like my buddy didn't actually know what year it was. VIN says 1999 so it is a PI. Anyone know if this is a windsor block or a Romeo so I can figure out which PI's they are?

All the 5.4s are Windsor. The 99+ 5.4s are Pi engines in the 150s. The Super Duty didn't see the Pi for an other year. Is it a complete engine? If it is the intake manifold will be on the new engine. Look on the head it will have Pi cast on the side of the head above the exhaust ports.

my question has to do with the heads themselves...evrything I can find says the heads themselves aqre Romeo's (RF-1l2e)> I know either can work on a windor block but it would be simpler if I knew for sure which one it was.

Romeo heads use a ladder type of camshaft cap.

Windsor heads use individual caps.

Driver side on Windsor has 13 bolts and the Romeo has 11.
Passenger side on Windsor has 14 and the Romeo has 11.

Assuming you have the correct valve covers you could use a Romeo head on one side and a Windsor on the other.
