How to: Cover up rockers with vinyl
How to: Cover up rockers with vinyl
Did this a while back, just did a write up on another forum so I decided to post it on here too in case anyone wants to do it too or just see how it's done.
What you need:
Vinyl, color of your choice, at least 9" wide for the obs, about 8 yards of it
Exacto Knife
Rubber Squeegees
Application Fluid (Can be a drop of dishwasher soap in a gallon of water or some specialized fluid, I used dish soap)
Before you start make sure too get any residues off of the area where you are applying the vinyl. I used cheap paper towels and some 3M residue remover.
I cut out vinyl to the length and width I needed and then taped it to the door in order to make it even.

Next, I took off the backing of the vinyl

Then, I sprayed the vinyl and door with the application fluid. The static should hold the vinyl up

After that, I placed the vinyl on the door

In order to get the bubbles out start from the middle and push the bubbles out of the vinyl with a 45 degree angle and work your way around.
After I got most of the bubbles out

Cut off the excess vinyl and tuck the bottom piece under the door
Under the door

And that's a quick how to on covering up rockers with vinyl if you do not want to go the permanent route of bedliner.

After:

Now:

I ordered my vinyl from signsplusbanners.com
Bought 10 yards x 15" - used about 8 yards with a lot of mess ups. My rocker paint went up about 7" so I cut to 8" so I could fold it under. I used a t-square to cut most pieces.
Hope this helps someone as I kinda went in blind on this one but it turned out pretty good if I must say so myself

As someone who did sign and vehicle lettering for a large portion of my younger working years I can say you did a fine job with that
pssssttttt...that window tint thing we were talking about is based loosely off that application

If you could shed some more details of information on the type of vinyl used. There are certain grades of vinyl aren't there? Some are more applicable and stretchy, others are more durable. I know a bit about vinyl decals that are used on dirt bike graphics and there are certain quality vinyls that work a lot better than others.
I am no expert on vinyl but I think for these applications premium cast vinyl is the best for it. I used Oracal 751 but this next time I will use 3M 7125 vinyl instead
FordGuy24- Haha ya but tint is clear and vinyl is more forgiving. I might give it a shot this summer tho
