old tired

my truck is a 1999 f150 4x4 xlt it's been a work truck for my family since 99 we own our own housing company and have 3 work trucks this one was just retired from duty so i took it and saved it from being traded in as a clunker... with well over 500k miles shes tired and worn need wheel bearings new leafs in rear and many unknown problems... it's factory and was always serviced at dealership and was wondering of any products that would spruse it up... dont really like chrome more into black any cheap mods to make her look cleaner tomorrow going for a exhaust cut out and a peice of pipe welded in i just love that loud sound... also truck shift really hard from 1st to 2nd just wondering if a fluid and filter change might change this... just some thoughts and will post some pics of what i do to her when i get a camera...

500k?

Ive heard the hard shifts from first to second have something to do with a broken spring that can be replaced in the tranny? Someone who knows more can hopefully fill that in.

X2

The 1-2 spring is a cheap and pretty simple repair.

You ever notice that it's the trucks that are USED and beat and pushed to it's limits everyday that end up lasting the longest? For some weird reason the ones that are babied aren't as durable.

I was told by my uncle that if you are going to beat on a truck one day, you might as well do it every single day. that way, the parts kinda get tempered to the abuse, and it doesnt come as a shock. if you babie something and it gets worn down slightly (for instance driving 50 miles highway every day to work) and then all of a sudden you change and use it completely different (getting a job here in town and driving 15 miles of stop and go) thats when things start to break, when you make that change, so its almost better to constantly rip on them then to baby them and them rip on them.

well i say well over 500k but the odometer just has lines running through it lol it went out at about 540k something havent tried fixing it cause it's an odometer that was about a year ago and the truck just retired from our family business last friday so now i'm using her as my daily driver my dad and pops (grandpa) have always bought ford and seeing how these trucks hold up to the abuse they give them i'll buy nothing else... but any ideas on simple mods that are cheap like i said it's the same as it was when she rolled off the line down to the plugs we always use factory replacement motocraft...

and to help some understand when you baby the truck it doesn't wear as much but it gets wear patterns... then when your gettin down on it every day the wear patterns change and the truck is not used to it... so it causes stress and things start to break... i have never been easy on a truck when i buy them i try tearing them up to wean out all the bad parts... tehn take it a lil easy... and when you test drive a car dont just baby it but burn the tires and run the rpms to the red line to be sure nothing will break when you drive off the lot... most people trade cars in because THERE IS A PROBLIM THAT THEY DONT WANT TO FIX 90% of the time my cousin see it all the time at the dealership...
