Some of the comments show a misunderstanding.
Don't mix up over drive with lockup. They are two different operations.
The trans will never go into OD under 45 no matter switch 'on or off '; you have no control of this.
Lock up may or may not work depending on speed and loading in second and third.
The results of running out of lockup is higher transmission fluid heat from converter fluid shear that is a normal action along with about 300 rpm higher engine speed due to the slip.
As to good or bad; bad for fuel mileage but not bad as far as transmission life at lower speed and light to normal vehichle loading goes.
For shifting at low speeds you can't do much about it.
The PCM decides when shifting will occurr from RPM, throttle position plus a software timer function.
Only other difference is manuel selection of lower gears forcing a limit on auto shifting.
Under these conditions, you will never see OD and very limited lock-up in second or third gears.
Thinking you are accomplising much by trying to control shifitng in not very productive.

good point. What many think is shifting out of OD, is actually the torque converter unlocking. I don't think it ever locks in third gear with OD because it will shift into OD instead, but with OD off it will lock in third when the trucks reaches cruising speed.

We can easily unlock the converter at any time, just let up on the gas for one second, then push the gas pedal down again.
