well i failed inspection today

today i went for my yearly inspection sticker and due to owning the truck for a month it was the first inspection. so these are the few things that have failed lower ball joint, muffler clamp, front gas tank strap bracket (riveted to frame) all so i need to remove the air ride from the truck due to i have one bad air bag. i did find a bracket off a parts truck at my local salvage yard and i have a buddy that is installing it and doing the lower ball joint for $100.00 so doing the bracket do i have to remove the tank

Wow. In texas I see cars driving around with MUCH bigger problems than any of those. There was a car driving around on my way home tonight with no hood and one headlight. Imagine he wouldnt do well wherever you are.

They do inspection of suspension parts and stuff because at least PA (penndot) claims 25% of all accidents are caused by faulty parts and doing this helps to keep that number low. I don't believe a word of it.

There's probably some truth to that. I highly doubt it is 25% though. Maybe 5%, the other 95% is driver error or failing to pay attention. Either way, I would refuse to live anywhere with inspections like that. That would be like living in a HOA division. Get fined if you have an "unhealthy" 6" spot in your front yard/grass kinda crap.

That front gas tank strap sounds like a hazard though.. lol

Are you sure the tank strap is riveted? I dunno yet about these, but on a Ranger I had the tank strap was hooked into the frame then came under and around to bolt in. Yes, the tank would have to be removed

You would be concerned about a bad gas tank strap but driving a vehicle with a bad ball joint is ok in your book.
I am glad my state has such inspections because it catch's items that have failed or are failing, like ball joints, tie rods etc. Items that I don't have the time, tools or knowledge to check on a regular basis. $45 a year is Cheap money for inspections of my vehicles then I know that myself and my GF are driving safe road worthy vehicles.
