Starter died on me last night.
Got a tow to the garage I have been using.
(the shop recently replaced my battery and flushed the cooling system)
This morning, the shop confirmed the starter needed to be replaced.
Quote was $365.
So to all who've paid to have the starter replaced...
Do you recall what you paid?
How high are these guys (in your opinion)?
I don't have the time or ambition to work out in the cold to save $$$$.

Side note...
I can't help but wonder if some 'tinkering' went on at the shop while my battery and cooling system were worked on.

i was $240 but it all depends really on the price of the starter and what the mechanic charges per hour.

That price didn't include towing ($75), but I have a $20 off coupon for the $365.
And should get $25 back from insurance on the tow.

Answering other question.... the starter should be brand new.

Just looked at some new F150's on line.
I may go shopping this weekend.

For a new starter, that is not out of line, in my opinion.

I just checked Rock Auto - remans for an 03 are in the $140 to $170 range depending on brand, they don't sell new ones.

My girlfriend just had hers replaced in Philadelphia and the starter was close to 200 and labor was a little over 100 bucks.
That's in her car. An old Buick...

That's not a totally unreasonable price you got.

I just got a Reman from O'Reillys for $150-ish IIRC w/ a lifetime warranty. It took me ~3-5 hours to get the danged thing on. The way the top bolt is on the 4.2L there was no way I could get a wrench on it. Had to break it off.
