Which is better????
Right, just because you said so and you fail to provide any support to your claim.
Reliability- The 4.6L made Ward's Top 10 Engines of all time list, the 5.4L did not. IIRC, the 4.6L didn't have cam phasing issues, throwing plugs, etc either.
The 5.4 2V (which is what the 97-03's have) does not have cam phasers. The 4.6 throws plugs just as much as the 5.4, if not more.
Modifications- The Mustang is the most mod friendly car in the world. And There are 10x more 4.6L made than 5.4Ls
Fuel Eco- Put both at 65 mph and a fuel analysis system on them and see which is pushing less fuel (GPH). I'm willing to bet the 4.6L wins.
In a F-150, the 4.6 doesn't get much better gas mileage than the 5.4 because it has to be driven harder to keep up.
4.6L -3
5.4L- 0
You are unconditionally biased.

Far from it. I totally disagree with that ^^^. I don't believe I've ever heard that before.

I know I would have run a poor 4six into the ground twice over pulling what I do with the 5four. Shoot, I guess they should of put the 4six in the F250 standard.
There's just no way.
Me research, yea okay buddy.
5.4 has more power ,that's all.
Phil
...which leads me to my next question, would those cams fit in our trucks? The 97-03 truck motors are all SOHC 2v motors, right?
190k on my 4.6 without much care given to it other than plugs and cops changed once and oil changed regularly.
I think the 2v 5.4 is just as reliable as a 4.6 of the same age. Fuel economy really depends - in some cases the 4.6 could be worse or better. I actually managed to average 20 mpg on an all highway trip keeping it below 2k rpms. If you're planning on modding then you might as well start with a more powerful motor.
i love my 4.6 but if it were to blow id put a 5.4 in its place.

I think your mistaken, the 5four was standard. Even in the LD I expect. You could probably order one with a 4six, there was a few. What would be the purpose. To the consumer there might be, back then I guess. In reality, both had the same mileage. Pobably why it was discontiued.
The OP's question has been answered.

Sorry, Brew - the 4.6 was standard in the F250LD.
