Reliability for long trips?

should i have anything to worry about with takin my truck on say 2-3 hour trips. i just feel as its getting older and more mileage theres more to worry about going wrong, granted its been a great truck and everything. i know im not close to the mileage some people have on here im at 135,000 on a 2000 5.4. who here travels good distances with their higher mileage trucks?

My father makes a trip from Nebraska to California at least 3 times a year in his 2001 5.4L. It has about 115K on it. Never had a problem doing so.

I drive my 97 up to six hours straight and it has never left me stranded. The only time I had a problem was when my transmission was failing( I had known about it for a few months) and it finally went. Had to limp my but back home. If you have kept up on the maintenance and don't drive it like you stole it everywhere you go you should be fine.

I have 136k on mine and don't even hesitate hopping in it and driving coast to coast.

If you've kept up on the maintenance, then yea, I wouldn't hesitate to take your truck on a long trip. And hell, 2-3 hours? That was a commute for me a few years ago when driving from Baltimore to DC, if the traffic was bad.

My 4.2 has 118,xxx on it (not many miles to me) and I drive it annually from Maryland to South Florida for vacation. That's a 16 - 18 hour trip and just over 1000 miles, each way. I never sweat it, well until I see the cost in fuel.

Not if you've maintained it well.

Agree with the maintenance comments. That's what would make your truck reliable

oh yeah my truck gets very well maintained. one concern of mine was the sparkplugs. changed them about 35,000 miles ago, dry no antisieze and torqued to spec. im guessing i shouldnt have to worry that issue then?

I have a friend that traded in a 2003 with 212,000 on it and I would not hesitate to start across country in it. The salesman at the dealership bought it after the trade in.

Nah man, relax and let the good times roll. If you haven't already, check the tire pressure and oil level before you head out.

as long as youve been keeping up with your maintenance, you should have no issues

If you take good of of her their shouldn't be any issues I have 150,000 on mine and have no issues driving long distances in it (knock on wood.) I take mine across the pass on a 3-4 hour drive at least once year.
