We have two f150's in our family, my 99 with a 4.6 and my dad's 02 with a 5.4. We do a 13hr trip each way in the middle of the summer, both of us hauling, him our 25ft camper and me our 18ft ski boat. We both have over 220k on them both and neither of us ever hesitate to take our trucks anywhere.

I drove my 2001 F-150 XLT 4x4 5.4L from Illinois/Indiana to Utah last year. Then I went four wheeling. I had no problem getting there or getting back.

LOL.

Some people can't go to the store without throwing a CEL. It's really about maintenance and preventive maintenance, knowing your truck. If your like me, every time the hood is up for whatever reason... I go over just about everything with a quick glance and feel. Checking hoses, pcv lines and such for signs of wear. Fluids are always topped off and kept clean. TB, IAC, MAF and things like that are kept up and cleaned. Fuel filter is changed regularly etc... all the standard maintenance. And I have the ear for any new noises. Anytime while driving and something new catches my ear, I'm all over it. Hunt it down until its figured out what is causing it and fix it. Blah blah.. you get it. Like I said, its about knowing your truck and its history. If you know it's running like a champ, don't look back.

I understand. I have 119,000 on mine and I drive about 800 miles a week. I have a 2 1/2 hour commute every Friday and Sunday night. My wife sent me to look at new trucks and I just laughed at them. I like mine better and I trust it.

I've taken mine back and forth from my job back home down to school a few times...It's about a 3 1/2 hr drive and does it just fine since I've fixed most of the PO's maintenance issues. Got 17.7 MPG on the last trip! And that's on a 5.4 4x4 ex cab.

My main commuter car is a 98 Mazda 626 with 270k on it though...haven't had any issues, but AAA definitely gives me some peace of mind.
