???? What to do now ????
OK, folks... Did the compression check. 160 in 1 cylinder and less than 70 in the other 5. My mechanic says I am better off replacing the motor than fixing it. I have been on the phone all day and it seems that he is right.
Now, I could use a little advice. My wife found a place online...

These guys have quoted me 1165 on a used F150 motor with 77,000 miles on it, this includes a 6 month warranty. They also said that for a total of 1350, they will extend that to a year and cover labor as well. I have never dealt with a place like this and I am not sure if it is legit or what. Has anyone dealt with one of these places?
Also have another place with a Mustang motor with 20,000 miles for 800, but nobody seems to know if it will work in my truck... Anyone here know that answer?
I see myself as having a couple of choices... 1. Resell the truck, take the loss and find something else... or 2. Replace the motor and catalytic converters and have way more than I was planning to spend on a vehicle but have it for a long time. The mechanic says with all the new parts the previous owners threw at it, it should be good for a long time after replacing the motor. I just don't know, I am kind of flustered to say the least.

Well he should of never started another post!
I'm not going to wast my time looking it up....lol

Thanks for the link to my first post!
I figured this would be easier than everyone having to read through the NOVEL I posted the first time... But just for those who don't want to pack a lunch and kick back to read the entire melodrama, I will shorten it up. (Although, all of the various new parts that have been thrown at it up to this point are listed in the first one)
I have a 97 F150 4.2L V6 with a little over 120,000 miles on it, which I bought used, knowing it had some mechanical issues, but figured that with a strong body, tranny and suspension as well as a flawless interior, it would be worth it in the long run. I had absolutely no idea that the motor was totally shot. Still may be worth it, just wrestling with it.

Brent...
You bought the truck so now it is yours. You (seemingly) found the issue. Go with a new engine but since you have the V6, swapping in a 4.6 V8 will require more $$. Just do a simple new(er) V6 swap and Git 'Er Done. Take off all the new parts that has been thrown at your current engine for back-ups or immediate exchange.

Sorry Brent,
I wasn't trying to be rude but you need to keep it all in one thread so the people that are trying to help you will follow it and some people that haven't seen your other thread , knows whats going on...lol
If the other Mustang motor is a V6 (Forgot some are) close to the same year. All you would need to do to make it work would be to swap the Intake manifold up,off your current motor and use the Mustang block and heads (if its a V6).

I had read his last one so I knew
Me too.Never occurred to me. Thanks Phil
After a day of wrestling with it, it looks like I will be going with the new(er) motor... I will have more in it than what I had intended (WAYYYYYY more).... It sounds a little crazy I think, but, the transmission is super strong, the suspension is still in such good shape that it rides like a new car, it handles like a dream and the interior is nearly perfect. It would make me a good ride for a long time if I fix it, and I have never owned a Ford in my life (always been fond of an Eclipse) but, I do like the looks of this truck too...
My main concern is if I get the new(er) motor through the wholesaler that I found, I am not sure about their whole warrantee thing. Does anyone know if these places stand up to their warrantees?

I would advise against paying for an extended warranty unless they are local to you.
Not worth having to take the motor back out ,shipping to them and them shipping it back.
If nothing goes wrong in the first 6 months, you should be good to go.

I agree. Unless they are local, I would advise against the extra warranty. The warranty may be through a third party. If that's the case, I would want some info about it before hand... and read all the fine print!!
OK, that is kind of along the lines of what I was thinking but, the place claims that the year warrantee also covers shipping and labor if the motor has to be taken out... That means no more money out of my pocket... But I don't know if I trust it, guess I need to do a little reasearch on it and see if it is B.S. or not.
