Battery light??

I have a 03 f 150 and while on the way to work this morning just cruising down the road and the battery light came on..I have noticed that it would do that if the RPM's got over about 3500..but now it just stays on..What do yall think the problem is? It dont seem to be cranking slow or anything like it has a weak battery

Could be a dying battery, not that likely over a poop alternator. From my experiences, if you notice things starting to act funny, lights dimming, certain power items not working and the truck seeming to idle in park/drive a bit higher than normal= alternator. A dead battery usually cranks slow, and every time you fire it the guages do a full sweep- like Pontiacs normally would do. Given the fact your truck is going on 6 yrs, if original battery, it might be soon to go if not already. Put a tester on it to see if it's got a 12v charge to it.

Go over to Autozone, they test batteries and alternators in the vehicle free.

put a volt meter on your batt. when the trucks running see what its charging at. it might be over charging if it happens at 3,500 or more RPM. your batt. should be at about 12-12.5 volts with the truck off. and anywere over 14-15ish while running over 15 is bad and the voltage regulator took a crap in the alt. anything under 13.8 is not chargin right.

Mine did the same thing and I replace the alt and al was good if you do have the oe batt then you should propably replace that to. Mine was 10 yrs when I did it (pre. owners never did) and with a old batt the alt will have to work harder. If you cont. to drive sooner or later your bat will go dead and you will be getting towed. Another quick test you can do is start the truck and pull the - cable for the batt if it dies its your alt.

alternator just died, get it replaced now before you kill off the battery and get stranded somewhere

With newer motors that test is very hard on the computer because of the power the computer the injectors and the coils/COP uses. ive heard a few storys of guys screwing stuff up by doing that.

my stock batt. went for 10 years before it just was a long start up.
